Adults most often think about the true meaning of this holiday. Easter celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection, making it the most essential of all Christian holy days. However, today the meaning of the holiday is masked by painted eggs and bunnies. Easter can fall anytime between March 22 and April 25 since is occurs the first Sunday after the full moon. Easter is also related to the Jewish Passover in symbolism and it’s position in the calendar.
How does the rabbit and the eggs fit in? Well the rabbit is a well know sexual character of fertility. Religions linked with Babel associate the rabbit with periodicity, both human and lunar. The Mother Goddess Semiramis (Easter) is associated with the moon. Therefore, the Easter bunny symbolizes the Mother Goddess and is connected with once a year Spring time fertility rituals worshiping the Mother Goddess.
Colored Easter eggs are a part of the festivities too that came from the egg which was a consecrated symbol among the Babylonians. The believed that a astounding size egg fell from heaven into the Euphrates River from which the Goddess Semiramis was hatched.
It makes you wonder how many of us truly think about the proper meaning of this holiday other than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It has become another retail holiday and very commercialized. In spite of it all, it is a time for families to come together and celebrate the day.
Kids love Easter gifts, candy and most of all the egg hunting which could take on a life of it’s own. Family member that are separated by geography many times send Easter baskets to their family members. Grandparents send Filled Easter baskets for Kids to grandchildren. Daughter and sons send Family Easter Basket to parents and siblings far away. These Easter food baskets contain candy, plastic eggs filled with goodies, cheese, crackers, brunch items and more
